Calcium

Calcium is an important mineral, and recent research suggest that we only get about 1/3 of what we need for good health. Calcium is essential for human life – it makes up bones and teeth and is crucial in the process of conducting messages along nerves. It ensures that our muscles contract and that our heats beat. It is also extremely important in the maintenance of the immune system, among other things.  Read More →

Energy Bars

A few weeks ago, my mother was visiting and she brought us some granola bars that she had just made. To make a long story short, they were a huge success with me and the kids. I am in the process of gathering all of my ingredients to make MY first batch. They don’t cost more to make than if you were to to buy them. They are actually CHEAPER and HEALTHIER as you control the ingredients that go into them. Enjoy!!! Read More →

Grape Nut Cereal

We rarely eat cereal at home. But when we do, the kids and the hubby prefer the “Cheerios” or “Corn Flakes” kind. But it is just a matter of taste for us as why we don’t really eat it. But there are a few reasons why YOU should make your own as opposed to buying it and you can read about it here.

Making cereal at home is very easy and it only takes a few ingredients, allowing you to control what goes into it.  This cereal is also great as a topping over yogurt. Read More →

Almond Flour

Almond flour and almond meal are used in many baking recipes. Not only they are gluten free but both ingredients are also high in protein. However, I try to avoid using almond flour because it is high in calories (1 cup of flour equals to 90 almonds – you do the math) and it is high in inflammatory polyunsaturated fatty acids (my fingers get swollen and painful skin sores can surface if indulging too many foods with almond). You can read more about the negative side effects of using almond flour here. But using it in moderation is the key. Read More →

BBQ Pork in Crock Pot

Another great crock pot recipe. My crock pot saves me on days the kids have football or lacrosse practice. And this is one of their favorite as it is very tasty, not too spicy (I had to adjust the recipe for that), and the meat is very moist. I have issues with my gallbladder when I eat a lot of fatty food so I try to limit my pork and red meat intake, especially when cooked in the crock pot. However, if it wasn’t up to me, I would have to make this recipe on a weekly basis. Because not only everyone loves it, but leftovers are great in a sandwich too. Use organic ingredients whenever possible. Read More →

Still using prepackaged taco seasoning? After trying this great recipe, you’ll never go back. And … you can make it at home in less than 2 minutes. It can also be modified by adding or removing heat or sodium. That is the beauty of DIY. This recipe makes about 3 tablespoons.  Read More →

The Benefits of Running

Fruit Flies Trap – Getting Rid of Them Naturally

Fruit flies can be such a nuisance to many of us. They have a crazy short life span, taking only 8-10 days going from egg to adulthood, which means they reproduce at a speedy rate. They thrive in moist, damp places, such as sink/garbage disposal drains, and are attracted to fruits and other foods that are fermenting or rotting. Trying to catch them can replace your endurance workout and it just seems you can ever catch them. When you think you got them all, you find more flying around the house. There are easier ways to catch and kill them. The first one I tried worked like a charm and I am sharing it with you.  Read More →

Balsamic Chicken in Crock Pot

This was one of the very first crock pot recipe I have ever made and it was an instant success. My mother had given me her old crock pot and had been sitting in my kitchen cabinets for over a year.  One day, I was complaining to my neighbor at Lacrosse practice that dinner will be served late on Lacrosse days. That is when she told me that she uses her crock pot on practice days and has dinner ready by the time they get home. That day, she forwarded me some of her kids’ favorite recipes and we have enjoyed them since. Read More →
