Chicken in Port Wine

I like to try different things. We surely eat a lot of white meat at the house. Some recipes are a big hit, and some are not. This one is by far my favorite, but not so much for the rest of the family. The flavors brought by every ingredient are amazing.

Chicken Milanese with Arugula Salad

I have to say that my sister-in-law loves to cook. Not only that she loves to cook but her cooking is good. Oh, did I mention she can bake too? Last week she kept posting pictures of her fabulous dinners on Instagram and Facebook and decided to try one of the dish. I have made chicken cutlets before. However, after researching how to make Milanese, I found out that I had been doing my cutlets wrong all along. I used regular bread crumbs as opposed to Panko (Japanese) breadcrumbs…it tastes so much better with the Panko breadcrumbs. Here is my take on this chicken.  Read More →

Energy Bars

A few weeks ago, my mother was visiting and she brought us some granola bars that she had just made. To make a long story short, they were a huge success with me and the kids. I am in the process of gathering all of my ingredients to make MY first batch. They don’t cost more to make than if you were to to buy them. They are actually CHEAPER and HEALTHIER as you control the ingredients that go into them. Enjoy!!! Read More →

BBQ Pork in Crock Pot

Another great crock pot recipe. My crock pot saves me on days the kids have football or lacrosse practice. And this is one of their favorite as it is very tasty, not too spicy (I had to adjust the recipe for that), and the meat is very moist. I have issues with my gallbladder when I eat a lot of fatty food so I try to limit my pork and red meat intake, especially when cooked in the crock pot. However, if it wasn’t up to me, I would have to make this recipe on a weekly basis. Because not only everyone loves it, but leftovers are great in a sandwich too. Use organic ingredients whenever possible. Read More →

Fruit Flies Trap – Getting Rid of Them Naturally

Fruit flies can be such a nuisance to many of us. They have a crazy short life span, taking only 8-10 days going from egg to adulthood, which means they reproduce at a speedy rate. They thrive in moist, damp places, such as sink/garbage disposal drains, and are attracted to fruits and other foods that are fermenting or rotting. Trying to catch them can replace your endurance workout and it just seems you can ever catch them. When you think you got them all, you find more flying around the house. There are easier ways to catch and kill them. The first one I tried worked like a charm and I am sharing it with you.  Read More →

Oral Health – Oil Pulling

After reading many articles on oil “pulling” it got me curious and I got into it over a year ago. Although I don’t do it religiously, I still feel the benefits whenever I do it.

Oil “pulling” is an ancient Ayruveda  dental care method. It involves nothing more than oil in your mouth for a certain amount of time. The principle of “oil pulling” is that it reduces the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth and the swishing with the oil also helps “pull” toxins from your system as you swish the oil through your teeth and gums. Plaque is caused by bacteria, and, although having some sort of plaque can be normal, having an excessive amount of it can cause bad breath, yellow teeth, gum inflammation, gingivitis, and cavities. Your overall oral health my also affect or contribute to various diseases such as endocarditis, cardiovascular disease, pregnancy and birth, and diabetes just to name a few.  Read More →

How to Delay Berries from Spoiling

With berry season being in full force, our family has been eating a lot of them lately. Our favorite being blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. In the past, my refrigerator shelf life for berries was pretty short, especially if I was dealing with strawberries or raspberries.  White vinegar is the key here. Once you bring your fresh berries home, the key to keeping it fresh is to kill any spores on the fruit.  The pH of vinegar does that job.
