The Benefits of Running

Running

If you are like me, running can be dreading. It can be boring and also painful. However, I thought I would never say that but I feel so much better after completing a short run.

I picked up running after having my first child. Dieting alone couldn’t get me back into my jeans. So, I started to run. Slowly. I could keep a 10-minute mile pace on the treadmill for 2 miles. Finishing a 5k required me to walk some. When I would enter a running event, race time would never be less than 33 minutes. But, I was running. As I got older, I picked up running programs and got better at it. I now can run a 5k from 24 to 28 minutes on a good day. I also ran longer distances, with 10 miles being the longer distance I have raced. Now that I don’t have any races to train for, I try to run 1-3 times a week. It has not been easy this summer with the kids in 1/2-day camps and now with nightly practice for fall sports. But I still try. Running has many benefits. Whether or not you are fast or slow, it still provides the same benefits that are highlighted below.
